Scripture

31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

Observation

The smallest ideas can grow into great endeavors in God’s Kingdom.

Application

What ideas has God planted in my heart to blossom and grow with nourishment from prayer, hope, and seeking God in community? Perhaps other birds will come join me in my mustard bush to relish the shade of God’s love.

Song for Prayer and Contemplation:

United Methodist Hymnal #572

“Pass It On”

“What a wondrous time is spring,
When all the tress are budding
The birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming;
That’s how it is with God’s love,
Once you’ve experienced it.
You want to sing, it’s fresh like spring,
You want to pass it on.”

Prayer

Lord, thank you for the little ideas that you give for me. I love the way they grow when I water them with your Spirit and fertilize them with your Word. Help me to be a shade for others to find the sanctuary of your Kingdom. In your Holy Name I pray. Amen.
