Scripture

12 Then Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who were selling and buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13He said to them, ‘It is written,
“My house shall be called a house of prayer”;
but you are making it a den of robbers.’

Observation

Jesus becomes indignant at the site of merchants exploiting people’s religious devotion for profit.

Application

Lord, may we be diligent in your honoring your desire that our church be a free house of prayer for all.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, you purified the Temple through your wrath. I am reminded how you desire mercy not sacrifice, a pure and contrite heart you will not despise. Thank you for standing up for the little guys in need of mercy. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
