https://bible.oremus.org/?ql=512077699

Scripture

20So whoever swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it; 21and whoever swears by the sanctuary, swears by it and by the one who dwells in it; 22and whoever swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by the one who is seated upon it.

Observation

The sacred words we pray and recite have power and meaning in God’s kingdom. As the third commandment reminds us, we shall not use the Lord’s name in vain.

Application

It is better to direct our devotion to God in heaven than consecrated objects.

Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, help us to keep silence when are words cause harm. Help us speak when our words can bring life or glorify God. In your Holy Name I pray. Amen.

II.) Day 46

https://bible.oremus.org/?ql=512077895

Scripture

37 ‘Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!

Observation

Jesus’ laments the rejection of his message by the people of Jerusalem.

Application

Lament can name the injustice and pain in the world particularly if it does through public prayer and proclamation.

Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, we too lament with you the rejection by the world of your way that leads to life. Helps to overcome our sadness by acknowledging our grief and turning to God for comfort and consolation. In Your Holy Name I pray. Amen.
