TUESDAY TIDINGS for August 13, 2024

TUESDAY TIDINGS

Pastor’s Corner

Dear First United Methodist Church of Mount Dora,

This past Sunday, I was able to attend worship at the First United Methodist Church of McAllen, Texas. I was greeted warmly by various members of the church
The Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Jon Herrin even gave me copies of two books he had written. They also had the blessing of the backpacks in worship.

The word for the week is connection. It was great to be welcomed into our wider, United Methodist connection at this beautiful church, First United Methodist Church of McAllen TX.

They have a beautiful sanctuary and a nice school. I even saw some butterflies in a garden in their courtyard. Butterflies are a beautiful symbol of Christ’s resurrection. I want you to know that I’m doing well, and I dearly miss you.

Again, it was great to be welcomed here in McAllen, TX by another First United Methodist Church. I greatly appreciate the beauty of our wider United Methodist connection across states and across the world. Together, we can do more for God’s glory than we ever could on our own.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor David

TOMORROW:

Join our Wednesday evening Bible study starting on AUGUST 14th! We’ll explore the captivating books of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. These living documents offer timeless wisdom to navigate life’s twists and turns. Discover how God’s purposes remain steadfast, even when believers seem absent. Nehemiah’s story assures us that God equips us for specific tasks, and Esther’s tale inspires faithful living in a secular world.
The prayer group meets on Wednesdays at 3:00 pm.  Contact the church office for the off-campus location.

THIS SUNDAY

The widowed support group will meet Thursday, August 22 at 9:30 AM in the Chapel.  Anyone who has lost a spouse is welcome.
What would it be like to journey back to the first century and sit at the feet of Rabbi Jesus as one of his Jewish disciples?  How would your understanding of the gospel have been shaped by the customs, beliefs, and traditions of the Jewish culture in which you lived?
A Bible study on the book, Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus, begins on Wednesday, September 4 from 9:30 to 11:30 am in the chapel.  The $15 book and daily homework list are available in the church office.
