YOUR CHURCH’S NEWSLETTER * Tuesday, June 3, 2025
Dear First UMC of Mt. Dora Family,
Grace and peace to you in the name of our risen Lord! I wanted to share some wonderful updates as we head into a busy and joy-filled June: Pentecost Potluck—Sunday, June 8th at 12:00 pm Join us for a delicious and spirit-filled Pentecost Potluck in Friendship Hall immediately following the 11:00 am service. Bring a dish to share and enjoy fellowship with our church family as we celebrate the “Birthday of the Church” and the work of the Holy Spirit among us. I encourage you to wear red this Sunday. I regret that I will not be in worship with you for Pentecost, but I have been assigned to offer a blessing at a change of command ceremony for my new battalion commander. I told my new commander that his selection of a date is a blessing from God, as it coincides with Pentecost. He was glad to hear of the coincidence. Rosemary Plummer, our Certified Lay Minister (CLM), will bring the message as we shift to a Summer at the Movies focus, where we tie the themes of Disney movies to various Gospel readings. We will conclude this four-week worship series with a special screening of “Beauty and the Beast” on June 29th at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel. This movie is an opportunity for evangelism. We encourage you to invite friends and neighbors to this free movie, and we will offer you invitation cards to do so. Additionally, another opportunity to share your Christian witness is to invite your friends and neighbors to a Prayer Breakfast with Mayor Homich on June 21st at 7:30 am in Friendship Hall. VBS Decorating Party—June 8th at 2:00 pm in the Sanctuary After the potluck, we’ll transform our Sanctuary into “Hometown Nazareth” for Vacation Bible School. We invite everyone—young and old—to come help decorate! Vacation Bible School—June 9th-13th, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm We are thrilled to welcome children to VBS with the theme “Hometown Nazareth.” Registration drop-off begins at 8:45 am daily. For working parents, we’re offering a “Stay and Play” program from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm each day. Staffing Update Rebecca Tew-Soto, a church member and our new Treasurer, has secured a full-time position with a nearby county government. This is something she didn’t expect but is excited about. We wish her every blessing in this new chapter. Debbie Sprague will continue covering bookkeeping until July 31st while we search for a new part-time bookkeeper. This position is 20 to 25 hours per week at $20 per hour. Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume to office@mtdorafumc.org, with the attention of the “Staff-Parish Relations Team.” Ministry Highlights Our Footprints children’s ministry recently celebrated with 17 children at their end-of-year event, and our Barefoot student ministry celebrated with 34 youth. Even more exciting: 93 children are already pre-registered for VBS! It’s incredible to see such growth and renewal in our age-level ministries over the past year. Thank you for your prayers, your service, and your faithfulness. Together, we are building God’s kingdom right here in Mt. Dora.
In Christ’s Love, Pastor David

Make a Difference for Kids in Belarus!
Spring of Revival is on a mission to equip 50 children in Greben—a small village in southern Belarus, near the Ukrainian border—with backpacks and school supplies. These kids face incredible hardships, as most families survive on just $200 a month, barely enough for food.
For years, Spring of Revival has been a beacon of hope, ensuring these children have the essentials they need for school. Now, we need your help to continue this life-changing work!
You can make an impact by giving online to “Missions” or writing “Belarus” in the memo line of your check.
Every gift brings hope. Dziakuj! Thank you!

🕵️♀️“The Case of the Vanishing Shuffle Boarders” A Hilarious Mystery in Five Suspiciously Fit Steps
🧩 Step FOUR: A Mystery of Movement… Literally!
Mount Dora’s shuffle boarders were vanishing—one by one! That first Monday morning, Old Frank was the first to disappear. By Wednesday, Mildred was gone too. When last week finally rolled around, the entire league was dropping faster than a misplaced puck.
The remaining players gathered in a dramatic huddle. “This is serious,” whispered Bob, adjusting his sun visor. “First Frank, then Mildred… and now even Doris?! If this keeps up, we won’t have enough people left for a proper game!”
“This is bigger than just a bad grip,” Eleanor insisted. “I say we investigate.”
The hunt began, sweeping every corner of Mount Dora for their missing teammates. The shuffleboard courts? Empty. The gym? Nothing but abandoned soup cans. The hall was eerily quiet despite the flute music that continued playing. Even the library’s large-print section showed no signs of life. It was as if they’d been… lifted right off the ground.
Then came the clue—a suspicious trail of footprints leading straight into the Labyrinth of Mush!
“Not the Mush,” Bob whispered, his face pale.
The Labyrinth of Mush was infamous. A sprawling, ever-changing maze of squishy terrain, where lost souls wandered for hours, knee-deep in couch potato-ism (and possibly tapioca). No one entered without a solid exit strategy—or at least a sturdy pair of boots.
“Look! A shuffleboard puck!” Eleanor gasped, pointing at a half-sunken game piece lodged in the gelatinous ground.
Heart pounding, Bob took a step forward—only to hear a distant whoosh echo through the labyrinth (or was that chewing?), followed by a muffled voice… Was someone calling for help? Or calling them in?
Their investigation had reached the point of no return. Somewhere beyond the Mush lay the truth. But were they prepared for what they’d find?
TO BE CONTINUED…
🕵️♀️ Will they uncover the truth? What dangers are lurking in the Labyrinth of Mush? Stay tuned…
