Read Matthew 14: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2014&version=NIV
Scripture: v. 14:13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns.
Observation: Immediately, upon hearing of the gruesome death of his cousin John the Baptist, Jesus withdraws to a quiet place. Though the crowds followed him, Jesus set an example for us in terms of self-care. We should confront our grief or will confront us in ways that leave us feeling not like our ourselves.
Application: Before we care for others, we must fill our bucket with time spent in prayer and solitude. Otherwise, we will have nothing to pour out to others.
Prayer: Lord, fill us with your Holy Spirit in this quiet time that we might serve others with the fullness of your love and mercy. Amen.
