It is election day in our country. I wanted to offer some helpful advice from John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement in Christianity.
No matter who you vote for, remember that Jesus wants us to love our neighbors.
Speaking of neighbors in Florida, this Sunday in worship we have the privilege of welcoming the Deputy State Chaplain of Florida, Lieutenant Colonel Lance Sellon. Lance is a member of a local United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, and is a graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary. He has served a variety of assignments and deployments in the Army, ranging from Drill Sergeant, Cavalry Company Commder in Afghanistan, and teaching the Chaplain Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces just before the Russian Invasion in 2022.
It was a United Methodist chaplain who encouraged Lance’s call to ministry over 15 years ago. The Lord now uses Lance to guide and mentor junior chaplains like to provide spiritual care to men and women in uniform. It is fitting to welcome him to preach in our church in honor of Veterans’ Day and our All Saints’ observance.
I hope you will join us this Sunday for a meaningful day
Grace and Peace,
Pastor David
ALL SAINTS’ DAY OBSERVED NOVEMBER 10, 2024
Sunday, November 10th, we will remember all those among us who died in the past year, stepping from this earthly life to the life eternal. We honor them and the lives they lived as we also pray for their families and friends who love them still.

“All Saint’s Sunday: This important day calls us to remember and rejoice in the universal and eternal aspects of the Christian church. Every Christian in every time and place, is a saint, and the communion of saints reminds us that those who have gone before us are still actively involved in and aware of what we are actively doing in the church today. This is clearly stated in the Bible in Hebrews 12:1 as well as in the expanded version of the Apostle’s Creed “I believe in a holy, catholic, Church, which is the communion of saints.” This Sunday is a time for all Christians to give thanks for and remember all those who have gone before us in the faith, and to remember that we are to pass our faith forward to the next generation.”
Faithfully,

Thrift Shoppe Update
Celebrating 3 Years – 5th Avenue Thrift Shoppe!
In October 2024, we mark three fantastic years of serving the community. Over this period, our net sales reached $268,465 from 50,000+ donated items. We’ve fully repaid our $25,000 startup loan and covered our expenses, including contributing $30,000 towards shared church utilities. Between 2021-2023, we supported church missions with over $100,000 and anticipate adding another $40,000-$50,000 by the end of 2024.
We’ve donated to various causes such as The Humane Society and Habitat for Humanity, and many more. Led by our amazing manager, Melissa Kinsey, our volunteers have transformed the Shoppe into a welcoming and friendly hub, strengthening bonds within our church and the community. We’ve also enhanced our church’s presence in downtown Mount Dora, offering a compassionate ear and prayer for many visitors.
Thanks to your support and prayers, we look forward to continued success.
