Lent Devotion, Day 23 of 44

Read Matthew 23: http://bible.oremus.org/?ql=482490079

Scripture: v. 23:23 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

Tissot, “Curse Against the Pharisees”, 1886-1896

Observation: Justice and mercy are part of our true offerings to God.

Application: I should offer forgiveness to others freely as an offering to God.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for your great mercy and forgiveness. I offer mercy and forgiveness back to my friends and neighbors as an acceptable sacrifice to you. Amen.
