Scripture:

He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach

Mark 3:14 NIV

Observation:

Jesus delegates his authority to those who follow him. We should follow the same example in the church, and delegate ministry. Jesus moves God’s people away from tribalism and factionalism (Twelve Tribes) toward collaboration and learning (Twelve Disciples) for the benefit of the world. The primary tasks of God’s people are to proclaim the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ and to promote healing and reconciliation in Christ’s name.

Application:

If God has called us to a particular ministry, what roles can we delegate to have a multiplying effect? Is your ministry proclaiming Good News? Is it promoting healing and reconciliation? Is your ministry based on factionalism or collaboration?

Prayer:

Lord, help me to see the gift of human community and collaboration. Use me as an instrument of your peace, to proclaim Good News and promote healing in your name. Forgive us, when we fall back into our comfortable divisions and factions. In your name we pray. Amen.
